Catwalk Report AW12

London Fashion Week has drawn to a close. While i don't know if any of you out there sat and watched some of the live webcams of the shows like me, I'm sure you will see the photos over the next few weeks.

I thought i'd do a quick update with some of the looks from LFW that inspired me, and hopefully will inspire you. I've only managed to sort out a few shows so far but if you want to see more you can either look on my Pinterest board here or go to the London Fashion Week site here which is where i have got all the pictures from. You can also view some of the catwalks as video on demand.

LFW Begins and NEWGEN Tees

Is it just me or is anyone else excited about London Fashion week that kicked off today? Its exciting to see what happens with the trends, even though its half a year in advance. I often think London fashion week is more exciting, possibly because I'm from the UK, more probably because of the diversity of looks that come down the catwalk from designers and the Central St. Martins graduates.
With New Yorks fashion week coming towards its close Trends for Autumn/Winter are already starting to show, Red Lips is the beauty trend I have noticed and its already showcased at LFW on the Emilia Wickstead catwalk! So I'm going to find my perfect red before September rolls around, plenty of time for a fussy so-and-so like me. My mood board for AW12 is already started on Pinterest, so i can be ready to start fishing through the trends when the time rolls round.
Adding to the designer addiction i have at the moment I entered Topshops #winNEWGENtee competition yesterday not expecting anything, but i won! I managed to win their Christopher Kane for Topshop NEWGEN T-shirt! I'm so excited i cannot contain myself! I'm telling all who will stand still long enough to listen. I cant wait to get it through the post, I'm already working out what to style it with in my head. Getting that tweet off of Topshop really made my day, especially since i was having a bad morning, I don't normally win competitions so maybe its the lottery next, fingers crossed.
There are 22 different Tees to collect from the NEWGEN range all found here while stocks last, from designers like Meadham Kirchhoff, Ashish and Holly Fulton to name a few. I would say go and check out Mary Katrantzou for Topshop collection that went on sale this morning too, however it sold out in a few hours, but i will be tuning in on sunday for the live streaming of the UNIQUE AW12 catwalk on their website.

Have a good weekend, and if you want to keep on top of LFW news go here and for more information on NEWGEN here.

Be My Valentine

Happy Valentines’ Day folks! I hope whatever you are doing, whether you are single or attached, you get a little bit of love and appreciation. I’m not normally one for Valentines’ Day, but this year i decided it would be nice to make something for the people i see often and hopefully brighten up their day.

So today I’m spreading the love to my family, work mates and friends with heart shaped cookies, topped with marbled icing tops. Now this may have been initially selfish on my part because I wanted to try making marbled icing, however I didn’t want a batch of 20 cookies to eat by myself.

Marbled icing was easier to make than I thought, all you need is white ready-to-roll icing and some food colouring. The recipe I used suggested using both white and red ready-to-roll however I dyed some white and feel it worked quite well, especially since we don’t use that much in our house, the ready-to-roll we had was left over from my Granddads’ birthday cake.

Here is how I did it in 3 easy steps.
1-   Dye a small amount of white ready-to-roll icing with red food colouring until you get the shade you desire.
2-   Fold into twice the amount of white ready-to-roll icing and roll out.
3-   Use your cookie cutter to make your shapes and stick to the top of your cookie using a small out of glace icing.

Just a small note when using this method, the red food colouring may stain your hands so just be careful what surfaces you put it on to roll out, though it should come off with a wipe down.

Now I think I needed more white in them really, though I am proud of how they turned out. If you have a try at making them feel free to send me a picture or link.

Happy Valentines,

Fresh As A Daisy...

Carrying on from my ‘Leap into Spring’ Post the other week I decided to look at what Beauty trends were on the Spring/Summer 2012 catwalks, and it was quite varied.

I fell in love with the looks at Louis Vuitton and Burberry, fresh, dewy skin with light eye make-up and a touch of sheen on the lips. It represents the epitome of spring beauty to me, natural and minimal. Play up your lashes by ‘tight-lining’ your eyes with a kohl eye pencil and add lots of lashings of mascara. If you have very few eyelashes like me maybe look into individual false lashes to add to the outer corner of your eyes to give yourself a little more volume.

Hair chalking was seen at Thakoon, a trend which I dabbled in for my works Christmas party and will definitely be doing again. My Hair chalk was courtesy of Kevin Murphys Colour Bug in pink, also available in purple and orange, and was easy to use. Though a word of warning to anyone wanting to try this trend, the chalk does come off a little during wear so don’t wear light coloured clothing or at least tie your hair up to minimise the risk of it getting on your clothes, though it washes out really easily.

Catwalks were also having a field day with retro hair including chignons, waves and rolls. Louis Vuitton accessorised theirs with diamante head bands, Fendi gave their roll lots of volume on top and Christian Dior models kept theirs glossy and understated, while Valentino opted for messy braided crowns.

Lipstick also seems to have been floating around the catwalks. Shades of candy, tangerine and red were seen with minimal make up elsewhere and groomed eyebrows, giving spring that little POP for parties and plain outfits.

What Spring/Summer beauty trends are inspiring you?

Making New Friends...

I went to London this weekend just gone for my works awards ceremony, as usual there was so much scandal we make a TV look like real life, but I'm upholding the what happened there, stays there rule.

Spent some time wandering around London the 2 Days after and taking photos with the new camera i got for christmas which i'd just like to share. Including the very friendly squirrels I made friends with in St. James's Park. Sorry its a photo heavy post.

St James Park - The Lake
Squirrel on the back of the park bench i was sat on.

View from Southbank over to Westminter and Big Ben at Sunset
 Big Ben at Sunset
Justin Bieber Murder fund - In a nice little bar off Hyde Park Corner, I think this is the most ingenious tip jar I've seen.
 Buckingham Palace at Night
The London Eye and County Hall
 Westminster Bridge
Big Ben in the Sunrise light
The London Eye and the Thames
 Big Bens Clockface

The Sweetest old lady feeding the birds on St James's Park. She has a pigeon in her arms and the birds seemed to love her back. It made me think of the Bird Lady from Mary Poppins.

Hope you enjoy the photos.
